The Marine Careers Program is for high school juniors and seniors and college students interested in career opportunities in the marine world.
Speakers are successful professionals from a cross section of marine arts, sciences and exploration.
This is your opportunity to ask questions – “How did you wind up doing this for a living?”…"Do you make enough money doing this to support a family?”…
You will also have an opportunity to hear from people of your own age who have started on a marine career. You will learn how they got started, what scholarship opportunities they had, what internships they completed… Again, you get to ask them the questions.
Beneath The Sea, Inc., celebrating its 33nd anniversary is a not-for-profit, volunteer, membership organization, recognized internationally as a source of education about the marine ecology and environment. Its program of purpose is to stimulate interest and education in the aquatic environment - be it sport, scientific, medical, environmental, or crafts as vocation or avocation. The 2nd Annual Marine Careers Program is just one of the events scheduled at the three-day expo scheduled March 27, 28, and 29, 2009 at the Meadowlands Convention Center, Secaucus, New Jersey.
Should you wish further information, or just wish to add your name to the Marine Careers mailing list, please send your name, mailing address, and email address to: MarineCareers@BeneaththeSea.org.

Lou Scarcella &Chuck
Every year the Research Divers for BayFest choose an honored guest to plunge into the depths of Sheepshead Bay. It is our pleasure to introduce to you Louis Scarcella, our diver for BayFest 2005
Retired police officer Louis Scarcella was born in Coney Island on October 9th, 1951. "My dad was a cop in Coney Island in 1954," he says, which naturally inspired him to join law enforcement. Lou enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968. He entered the Navy's Special Warfare School, spending two years in Swiftboats, patrolling the Coronado, California waters. Lou entered the Police Academy in 1972. He spent 22 years in various Homicide Squads in Brooklyn. His last command was at the Brooklyn North Squad. Lou, a husband and father of three daughters, was elected President of the famous Polar Bear Club in April 2003. When people ask him why the Polar Bears swim in the wintry cold water, he says, "It's a celebration of life." He continues, "When you are in the water you know you are alive. It is also great for the mind and body. We also believe it strengthens the immune system. We have some of the greatest and most interesting people in the club." He's quite remarkable guy himself. Stop on by and meet with our honored diver, Lou Scarcella. He'll be more than happy to share some of his war stories, but watch out; he'll probably persuade you to jump into the water in the middle of the winter! Lou will be diving the state of the art Kirby Morgan Superlite 27 Diving Helmet, equipped with unlimited air, communications and two cameras for the viewing audience. So come on by! Watch our famous Polar Bear dive the waters of Sheepshead Bay!
